Exit and Emergency Lights Meet Tough Windy City Standards

When it comes to exit and emergency lighting, the City of Chicago isn’t taking chances. The city’s Code of Ordinances spells out certain requirements in order to provide signage that’s bright, rugged and reliable in case, well, of an emergency.

Every municipality has its own requirements for signage, and it's important to check those codes before ordering products for a project. Because Chicago is the nation's third-largest city with some of the tallest buildings in the country, leaders developed their own ordinances for exit and emergency lighting for maximum visibility, longevity and clarity.

Emergency lighting is either recessed or remote capable, but both styles are constructed of durable, neutral white 20-guage steel and include adjustable 12W bi-pin halogen lamp heads. Mounting options differ slightly – wall mount or placed in a T-bar grid ceiling – but both the recessed and remote models include a 6V sealed lead-acid maintenance-free rechargeable battery.

Remote heads are also available in either 6V or 12V 12 watt versions. Customers can choose indoor or outdoor wet location and order items in either grey or white.
